The 15th Anniversary Conference and Exhibition SAKHALIN OIL & GAS 2011 took place on 27th – 29th September 2011 in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and reaffirmed its status as the largest and most prestigious event for the oil and gas industry in Russia’s Far East.

The overriding theme of this year’s event was “Tomorrow’s World: The role and potential of the Russian Far East in the changing global energy system”, and many speakers spoke about the crucial role of the region for Russia as a means to further expansion into growing Asian markets. The Government of Sakhalin Region also proposed the establishment of a scientific center on Sakhalin island, to capitalize on the successful experience of project operators, contractors and scientists in the region working in harsh sub-Arctic conditions, and to pass on this expertise to future projects in even more challenging conditions in the Russian Arctic.
