This year we have broken all records with close to 400 attendees over the course of four days – featuring senior representatives from Russian and International banks and financial institutions.

3rd December

The Conference had begun on a 3rd December with a Securitisation Forum, where presentations were heard from such experts as VTB, EBRD, Societe Generale, Raiffeisenbank Austria, IFC, City Mortgage bank, Irish Stock Exchange, Luxembourg Stock Exchange, Standard Bank Plc, Eurohypo AG, Magister & Partners. The liquidity crisis in the summer have impacted the securitisation deals and obviously the main topic discussed on the day was on the medium and long term effects of the crisis and the future of securitisation deals.

The Main Conference was opened on the 4th December by now a traditional address by the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in the UK, HE Yuri Fedotov.


4th December

The day has begun with a session on the macroeconomic overview of the Russian banking sector and the update on the latest regulation. Amongst others, the presentation were heard from

  • Timur Batyrev, Director, Department for Regulation, Management and Monitoring of the Payment System in Central Bank of Russia,
  • Michel Perhiren, Chairman of the Management Board of MDM bank
  • Alexander Khandruyev, First Vice President of Association of Regional Banks.

2007 was somewhat a milestone year for the Russian Banking Sector with a flagship IPO by Sberbank followed by another major IPO by VTB. Bella Zlatkis, Deputy Chairman of Sberbank has made a keynote presentation about the future of banking IPOs, Sberbank IPO and about the SPO (Second Public Offering) Sberbank is planning on the LSE. Case Study of VTB IPO has been presented to the audience by Yulia Chupina, Deputy Chairperson from VTB.

One of the hottest topics on the day was M&A, with a keynote presentation from Igor Kim, Chairman of the Board of Directors of URSA bank. Mr Kim has shared the experiences the bank has underwent in the process of merger, the synergies achieved and future strategies under a single brand name. Lazlo Wolf, Deputy CEO of OTP Bank and Chairman of the Board of Investsberbank together with Alexei Korovin, President of Investsberbank made a joint presentation uncovering from both sides the acquisition deal of Investsberbank by the OTP Bank.

The session has finished with a lively debate between the participants, and was joined by Marc-Emmanuel Vives, CEO of Bank Societe Generale Vostok. The last session of the day was an interactive debate dedicated to Bonds and Syndicated Loans as ways of funding.

The day has finished with the exquisite Gala Evening held at Dartmouth House at the heart of London’s’ Mayfair, where participants got a chance to relax after an intensive day and network with their peers in an informal atmosphere.


5th December

Second day of the main conference, 5th December began with a guest presentation by a renowned chief economic commentator Anatole Kaletsky, who writes weekly column in the Times. Anatole has addressed the audience about the burning issue of the current crisis, the global effects and effects on Russia in particular.

Guest presentation has been followed by the topic on the CIS banking and Cross-border opportunities, where focus has been made on the opportunities for the cross border expansion including presentations from Daniel Sandmeier from Credit Suisse (Zurich), Nicholas Enukidze from Bank of Georgia.

Next subject addressed by the speaker panel was ever so topical banking risks in Russia, where spotlight presentation was made by Philip Halperin. After lunch the parallel streams had been merged giving the audience a unique set of hard-hitting presentations that captured everyone’s attention addressing the development and trends in retail Banking and Private banking in Russia. Attendees heard from such experts as

  • Elena Rechkalova, Managing Director of Retail Business in National Bank TRUST,
  • Alexis Rodzianko, Head of Private Banking in Credit Suisse (Moscow),
  • Guido van Hauwermeiern, Co-Head of Retail banking Emerging Markets in BNP Paribas Group and Selim Elgen, Managing Director in Citi Private Bank (Europe).

The day was closed with a prize draw at the cocktail reception, where one lucky winner has won two business class return tickets Moscow-London.

The final day of the conference, 6th of December was a Risk Training day, run by Roger Roberts, a risk consultant with over 18- year experience in the top financial institutions across the world.
